What is the Storage Converter & Transfer Time?
Phone and drive makers count 1 GB as 1000 MB, while Windows and Android count in 1024s. That is why a 256 GB phone shows about 238 GB. This tool converts between bytes, KB, MB, GB and TB in both systems and estimates how long a file takes to copy or download.
How to use it
- Enter a size and choose its unit.
- Switch between counting in 1000s (the box) and 1024s (your computer).
- Read the value in every unit, and the usable size of a drive sold in GB.
- Pick your connection speed to see the transfer time.

Frequently asked questions
Why does my 256 GB phone show less storage?
The box counts 1 GB as 1,000,000,000 bytes while the system divides by 1024 three times, so 256 GB shows as about 238 GB. The system and pre-installed apps take more of it.
What is the difference between MB and Mb?
MB is megabytes (file size); Mb is megabits (connection speed). One byte is 8 bits, so a 100 Mbps connection moves about 12.5 MB each second.
