Two flagships landed within a month of each other. Google unveiled the Pixel 11 series on August 12, 2026, with phones shipping August 20. Apple announced the iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max on September 9, with sales starting September 18. Both cost $100 more than last year's equivalents, so the choice matters more than usual. This comparison uses official and widely reported specs. We have not tested both phones ourselves.

Price
The Pixel 11 starts at $899, the Pixel 11 Pro at $1,099, the Pixel 11 Pro XL at $1,299 and the Pixel 11 Pro Fold at $1,899. The iPhone 18 Pro starts at $1,199 and the Pro Max at $1,299. Coverage of both launches ties the $100 increases to rising memory costs, and notes that Apple also raised prices on older iPhone models by $100.
Performance
Both phones use 2nm chips. Google says the Tensor G6 is about efficiency as much as speed, and one review notes it is still slower than the latest Snapdragon chips in benchmarks. Apple says the A20 Pro uses a redesigned vapor chamber for up to 40% higher sustained performance. If you play demanding games for long sessions, Apple's claim is the more relevant one, but wait for independent thermal tests before treating it as proven.
Cameras
The Pixel 11 Pro uses a new 50MP main sensor and a 48MP telephoto with a larger 1/1.93 inch sensor, and Google advertises up to 120x Pro Zoom. PhoneArena's review preferred Pixel photos over the Galaxy S26 in its comparison. The iPhone 18 Pro has three 48MP rear cameras and adds a variable aperture main camera. Reports differ on whether that aperture is on both Pro models or only the Pro Max, so check Apple's spec page before you buy.
Battery and display
Apple quotes up to 36 hours of video playback for the iPhone 18 Pro and up to 45 hours for the Pro Max. Google lists a 4,850mAh cell for the Pixel 11 Pro and 5,115mAh for the Pro XL, with 45W wired charging on the XL. On the screen, the Pixel 11 Pro peaks at 3,600 nits and adds a scratch resistant coating Google says doubles scratch resistance. Both run 120Hz panels.
Which one should you buy?
Buy the Pixel 11 Pro if you want Android 17, a long zoom telephoto, and a $100 lower starting price.
Buy the iPhone 18 Pro if you already use a Mac, iPad or Apple Watch, or you want iOS 27 and Apple's quoted battery life.
Wait for full reviews if camera quality in low light or sustained performance decides it for you. Official claims and launch week hands-on notes are not the same as long term testing.
